Hertsmere attractions

The Hertsmere region covers a swathe of southern Hertfordshire, just where the county meets the northern fringe of the Greater London area. It encompasses a number of friendly and charming towns, including Borehamwood, Elstree, Bushey, Radlett and Potter's Bar

Borehamwood and Elstree are often lumped together due to their proximity, and are most well-known for the numerous film and TV studios located in the area, which for this reason is sometimes called the "British Hollywood". The most famous are Elstree Studios, where shows such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Strictly Come Dancing are produced, and which is also the location of the house used in Big Brother. Nearby BBC Clarendon Road Studios is where EastEnders and Holby City are filmed.

The village of Bushey is often used as a film location for productions based at these studios, and is also known as the home of the Bushey Rose Garden, an elegant landscaped garden created on the grounds of a former art school run by the Victorian artist Sir Hubert von Herkomer. Recently restored, the garden incorporates many lovely features, including a summer house, fountain and rose temple, and is a wonderfully peaceful place to stop and smell the roses.

Elstree and Borehamwood, Bushey and Potter's Bar each have their own local museums, which give an intriguing look into each town and village's past, plus there are theatres in Radlett, Borehamwood and Potter's Bar that show a mix of local and touring productions – perfect if you fancy seeing a show without travelling to London!
