A village with a long history
Tandridge dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, having been mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086. If you're keen to catch a glimpse of Tandridge's past, be sure to visit the parish church of St Peter, parts of which date from the 11th century.
The churchyard contains a number of historic headstones and vaults belonging to local digniteries, the grandest of which is an elaborate, white-marble tomb commemorating Lady Scott, the benefactress of the church and wife of architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, who lived at nearby Rooksnest. It's also home to an immense yew tree
, which is estimated to be over 1500 years old – making it one of the oldest in the country.
